An immersed interface-lattice Boltzmann method for fluid-structure interaction

An immersed interface-lattice Boltzmann method (II-LBM) is developed for modelling fluid-structure systems. The key element of this approach the determination jump conditions that are satisfied by distribution functions within framework lattice when forces imposed along a surface in an incompressible fluid. In initial II-LBM, discontinuity related to normal portion interfacial force sharply resolved imposing relevant using analogous corresponding pressure condition Navier-Stokes equations. We show same both single-relaxation-time and multi-relaxation-time LBM formulations. Tangential treated boundary-lattice (IB-LBM). performance II-LBM compared direct forcing IB-LBM rigid-body interaction, classical elastic interfaces. Higher order accuracy observed with as selected benchmark problems. Because function also satisfy continuity velocity field across interface, error much smaller than IB-LBM. demonstrated provide superior volume conservation simulating flexible boundaries.
